Risk Management

PA Child Protection Laws and League policy, requires background checks for coaches, assistant coaches, and all club volunteers. Additionally, concussion and abuse prevention training is required. All requirements must be completed and approved by the club risk manager to be a club volunteer in good standing.

 

State/Federal clearances are valid for 5 years and do not need to be repeated until they expire.

Concussion and Safesport training needs to be completed yearly.

 

Instructions for completing these requirements is listed below:

Step 1

Request a PA  criminal history record check

  • Request a free PA criminal history record check here https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp

  • Select "New Record Check" (Volunteers only)

  • Complete the application

  • Download and save a copy of the results

Step 2

Request a child abuse history clearance

  • Request a free child abuse history clearance here https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home

  • First time users will need to create an account. Returning users will access their existing account

  • Complete the application

  • Download and save a copy of the results

Step 3

FBI/Federal Criminal Background Check

  • If you have lived in PA for more than 10 years, complete the following:

 

Download, print, and sign a disclosure statement, affirming no charges in other states that would prohibit selection as a volunteer.

Create and save an electronic copy by scanning or photographing it.

FBI Criminal Background Check (fingerprint check) for federal criminal history records

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is utilizing IDEMIA to process fingerprint-based FBI criminal background checks. The fingerprint based background check is a multiple step process. For more information and to begin the registration process, go to https://www.identogo.com The standard DHS code for volunteers is 1KG6ZJ

Step 4

Load documents to your GotSoccer Account

  • Login to GotSoccer: system.gotsport.com

  • If you don't know your password, use the forgot password function

  • Upload a photo: On the account tab, upload your photo and fill in the missing data (except citizenship). The photo should be of the shoulders up, no hats or sunglasses, click Save when done.

  • On the dashboard tab, load your child abuse, FBI/Fingerprint, and PA  criminal background documents. For each document type, click on "More Info". On the next screen, select "Submit new report" - Step by step instruction located here

Step 5

EPYSA Risk Management

  • On the dashboard tab, complete the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Sports Risk Management form. This form is filled out directly in Got Soccer. Select "submit a new report", review the content, then sign it using the mouse to create a signature. 

Step 6

Concussion Training

(coaches only)

  • The Center for DiseaseControl (CDC) Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports is a free, online course available to all to help keep athletes safe from concussions.

  • Complete the training in your Got Soccer account by selecting details info on the Heads Up requirement on your dashboard.

  • Then launch the training.

  • Once training is complete, the requirement will automatically be marked as fulfilled.

Step 7

Safesport  abuse prevention training

  • Safesport training covers the following subjects: sexual abuse, hazing, bullying, emotional misconduct, physical misconduct, harassment (non-sexual) as well as reporting obligations. 

  • Complete the training in your Got Soccer account by selecting details on the Safesport requirement on your dashboard and then start course.

  • Once training is complete, the requirement will automatically be marked as fulfilled.
